floods' effects on health

flood effects on health

Floods are the most frequent disaster risk factor, and they have significantly increased morbidity and mortality over the world. The location, terrain, population makeup, and physical features of the built environment all have a role in how floods affect the local human population.

The purpose of this study is to determine the health effects of catastrophes and the underlying factors that contribute to the health effects of flooding. A conceptual framework is created that could help with the creation of a logical and thorough strategy for management, mitigation, and prevention.

Floods can have a wide range of negative effects on one's health, depending on a variety of variables. However, the health effects of a specific flood depend on the surrounding circumstances.

The immediate health effects of flooding include hypothermia, animal bites, hypothermia, injuries, and drowning. Health concerns also are related with the evacuation of patients, loss of health staff, and loss of health infrastructure including key drugs and supplies.

In the medium term, the indirect effects of flooding include infected wounds, injury sequelae, poisoning, poor mental health, infectious infections, and famine.

Long-term consequences could include starvation, chronic illness, disability, poor mental health, and diseases linked to poverty.
